This curriculum training event is for those wanting to learn and become certified to teach a sexual health curriculum to parenting adults. The Building Family Connections (BFC) curriculum is a ten-module interactive sexual health curriculum. It teaches content on sexual health, skill-building on parent-child connectedness and communication. Effective parent-child communication makes healthy adolescents! Since parents are the most influential factors in an adolescent’s sexual decision making, it is essential that parents talk to their children before their peers or the media does. Increasing parent-child communication on the sensitive topic of sexual health can lead to a delay in sexual activity in adolescents. However, parents are hesitant to talk to their children about sex or do not know how to do so. The curriculum provides information on how parents can communicate effectively with their children on sexual health issues. The BFC curriculum was developed with funding by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is provided by the Medical Institute. 


The 2-1/2 day BFC Curriculum Training will be held on Wednesday-February 27, 2019 Thursday-February 28, 2019 from 8am-5pm and half day on Friday-March 1, 2019 in Austin, TX (at the Comfort Suites Austin Airport).

  • Training participants MUST complete the entire 2-1/2 days of training to be certified to teach the BFC curriculum to parents.
  • The training materials, lunch and refreshments during the 2-1/2 day training will be provided.
  • The BFC Curriculum Training offers 13.75 CEUs for Texas and Mississippi social workers.


Early-bird pricing of $325.00 ends January 31, 2019 and then the cost will increase to $425.00. Registration closes February 10, 2019, and is on a first come first serve basis until all 25 available spaces are filled.  Register today as this training fills up quickly. We recommend staying on-site! The training is being held at the inviting Comfort Suites Austin Airport located at 7501 E. Ben White Blvd., Austin, Texas. To view their website click here. We have secured a special rate of $89.00/night plus tax for a King Room or $99.00/night plus tax for a Double Queen Room for our training participants. The Rooms are being held under the Medical Institute for Sexual Health February 2019 block. The Comfort Suites offers a complimentary buffet breakfast daily and provides free shuttle service for transportation between the airport and the hotel from 5am-11pm. The rooms include a king size bed or 2 queens, microwave, refrigerator and other great standard amenities. If lodging is needed, CALL THE HOTEL DIRECTLY (512-386-6000) and ask to reserve a room in the Medical Institute  for Sexual Health February 2019 block. Please make hotel reservations before February 12, 2019 because the group rate will not be guaranteed thereafter.


***Please note that departure flights should not be made prior to 3pm on Friday. Even though the training is only a half day,  enough time should be allowed to leave the training,travel to the airport and get through the security checkpoints. Certificates of completion will NOT be given out to any attendee who does not stay through the end of the training.
