This curriculum training event is for those wanting to become a certified facilitator to teach a sexual health curriculum to parenting adults. The Building Family Connections (BFC) curriculum is an interactive sexual health curriculum. It teaches content on sexual health, skill-building on parent-child connectedness and communication. Effective parent-child communication makes healthy adolescents! Since parents are the most influential factors in an adolescent’s sexual decision making, it is essential that parents talk to their children to guide them at every age and stage--hopefully before their peers or the media does. Increasing parent-child communication on the sensitive topic of sexual health can lead to a delay in sexual activity in adolescents. However, parents are hesitant to talk to their children about sex or do not know how to do so. The curriculum provides information on how parents can communicate effectively with their children on sexual health issues. The BFC curriculum was developed with funding by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is provided by the Medical Institute. 

  • The 2-1/2 day BFC Curriculum Training will be held on Wednesday-Feb. 5, 2020, Thursday-Feb. 6, 2020 from 8am-5pm and half day on Friday-Feb. 7, 2020 at 5999 Summerside Drive in Dallas, Texas.
  • Training participants MUST complete the entire 2-1/2 days of training to be certified to teach the BFC curriculum to parents.
  • The training materials (manuals, digital curriculum modules, video), lunch and refreshments during the 2-1/2 day training will be provided.
  • The BFC Curriculum Training offers 13.75 CEUs for Texas and Mississippi social workers.

Early-bird pricing at $325.00 lasts until January 6 , 2020 and then the cost will increase to $425.00. Registration  is on a first come first serve basis until all 25 available spaces are filled.  Register today as this training fills up quickly. ***Please note that departure flights should not be made prior to 3pm on Friday. Even though the training is only a half day,  enough time should be allowed to leave the training,travel to the airport and get through the security checkpoints. Certificates of completion will NOT be given out to any attendee who does not stay through the end of the training.
